Meet the Founder Behind Orek

A jewellery brand created to make premium everyday jewellery more reliable, elegant and accessible.

Before Orek, Sneha Jaiswal spent years as a jewellery designer sketching pieces, studying craft, and working closely with the materials, processes, and people that bring jewellery to life.

It was from this front-row seat that she saw the industry's most uncomfortable truth: beautiful jewellery was being built to look good, not to last. She didn’t read about this problem in a report. She lived it piece by piece, customer complaint by customer complaint.

Dozens of brands were proudly marketing “anti-tarnish 18K gold plated” jewellery, yet women were watching their favourite pieces fade within months of daily wear.

As a designer, Sneha knew exactly where the failure was happening — at the very foundation of the piece: the plating itself.

The industry had quietly settled on 1 micron of gold plating. It photographed beautifully, kept costs low, and looked perfect in the box. But it simply wasn’t built to live a real woman’s life.

Women love wearing jewellery every day through morning routines, long workdays, and everything in between. But nobody in the market was asking the honest question: is this jewellery actually made for that?

With her designer’s eye and maker’s knowledge, Sneha decided to build something different.

How long does gold-plated jewellery last before it fades?

This depends entirely on plating quality. Low-quality plating that is thin and cheaply done can fade in 1 to 3 months. Well-made plated jewellery, with proper base metal and adequate micron thickness, can last 1 to 2 or more years with daily wear if cared for properly. Orek uses 2.5 micron gold plating, which is thicker than what most brands use, so it holds its color and shine for much longer with everyday wear.

What's the difference between gold-plated, gold-filled, and solid gold jewellery?

Gold-plated jewellery has a thin layer of gold over a base metal, usually brass or silver, making it the most affordable option though the plating can wear off over time. Gold-filled jewellery has a much thicker layer of gold mechanically bonded to a base metal, lasting significantly longer than plating while still being affordable. Solid gold is gold all the way through, making it the most durable and valuable but also the most expensive. Orek specializes in high-quality gold-plated jewellery designed to outlast typical plated pieces through thicker, more durable coating.

What if I don't like it once it arrives?

You have a full year to exchange it, no questions asked. We'd rather you love what you're wearing than keep something that doesn't feel right.

How is this different from jewellery my mother would trust?

Same instinct, different era — we just make that trust verifiable. Every claim on our site (2.5 microns, waterproof, nickel-free) is something you can test for yourself, backed by a one-year exchange if it doesn't hold up.

Will the jewellery tarnish or turn my skin green?
